Reporter and editor (Philadelphia InquirerSeattle StarThe Seattle Times, and the Los Angeles Times). He received the Pulitzer Prize in 1950 for National Reporting while at The Seattle Times for his series on the clearing of Communist charges against Professor Melvin Rader, who had been accused of attending a secret Communist school. He served as press secretary for Senator Robert F. Kennedy.
