Note from the Chair

“Some old-fashioned things like fresh air and sunshine are hard to beat.”

 — Laura Ingalls Wilder

Dear Friends,

I hope you’re enjoying some old-fashioned fresh air and sunshine this spring. I don’t need to tell you that it has been a difficult couple of years, and that many of our shared challenges have yet to be resolved. But it’s also true that we have so much to be proud of and good things to look forward to this year. Here at UW Communication, where the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, we’re in the midst of a more robust return to campus and are preparing to celebrate our graduates with our first in person commencement since 2019. We can’t wait to watch our students walk across the stage as they embark on their futures beyond UW. We continue to be amazed by their fortitude and hard work as they learn to be effective, ethical, and empathic communicators.

We are so grateful for this community’s continued interest and engagement in the work we do. Our teaching and research supports our collective ability to connect, communicate, and collaborate on the most important issues and ideas of the moment. Honing this capacity to work together to solve complex problems has never been more crucial and we believe that communication is central to developing meaningful solutions. I invite you to take a moment to learn more about our mission and values, and to read on to learn about some of our recent activities.

Happy spring!
Christine
