Sarah Choi, Ph.D., (she/her) is a media scholar and practitioner whose interests range from historic home movies and found footage filmmaking to dance films. She is the recipient of the 2024-25 AAUW American Dissertation Fellowship, 2021 Barclay Simpson Scholars in Public Fellowship, and the 2022 Simpson Center Digital Humanities Summer Fellowship. In 2021, she won Third Place in the Society for Cinema & Media Studies (SCMS) Student Writing Award for her essay, “Life, Death, or Something in Between: Photographic Taxidermy in Get Out (2017)” and the 2020 Davis Feminist Film Festival’s Best Documentary award for “Big Scissors, Small Scissors.” Sarah also curates films for the Lights Dance Festival, which she founded in 2016.
