To sign up for COM 498 or COM 499, students must find a Communication faculty member to sponsor them. Work for the course depends on what is agreed upon by the sponsoring faculty member and student.
Work classified as Independent Study is work that is designed and conducted by undergraduate students. Directed Research work are research projects designed by faculty members.
COM 498 and COM 499 do not count towards the 400-level upper division requirement for Communication majors. However they help satisfy the Communication Elective requirement. Students who are not Communication majors may have this course be applied towards their total degree count as general electives.
Students are allowed up to 10 credits of COM 498 and 10 credits of COM 499 to count towards their degree. Students are allowed to take 1-5 credits per quarter in each of the courses.
To obtain an add code, please fill out the form below completely and send it to your faculty sponsor for their signature via DocuSign. Once you have completed the form with signatures, please send it to Communication Advising at comadv@uw.edu.
